At a local Hallmark store, the Last Chance Tour Train fundraiser is selling Save the Train ornaments to repair its tow unit — nearly all of 200 wooden ornaments have sold and generated about $2,000, and staff will soon offer 1,500 metal versions to help reach the $100,000 goal.

The Montana Historical Society has moved over 65,000 artifacts to a climate-controlled storage space (using new compact storage units) at the Montana Heritage Center, and residents can request to view specific items from the collection.

A small team continues to unpack and catalog pieces after the recent move.

Local hikers began a New Year tradition on Jan.

1 by exploring Helena's 150-mile accessible trail network and climbing Mount Helena; some enjoyed coffee (and mimosas) while taking in scenic views as they welcomed 2026.
