  • Helena summer camps opened registration as the Helena Family YMCA launched its Camp Child near Elliston on March 21st and Painted Pot began signing up kids; the YMCA camp can take up to 150 children per day while Painted Pot limits each session to 12—families are urged to register early to secure spots.  KTVH

CRIME NEWS

  • Nearly six months after 13-year-old Sa’Wade Birdinground disappeared from her Garryowen home on Oct. 6, her father Wade Birdinground remains hopeful she will return as the FBI searched her phone with no clues and continues to investigate while urging anyone with information to call Bighorn County Sheriff's Office 406 665 9798 or Salt Lake City FBI office 801 575 1400.  KXLH

ECONOMY NEWS

  • Montana farmers, ranchers and home builders face rising costs if tariffs on Canadian goods take effect on April 2—local producers warn that higher prices on softwood lumber, fertilizer and other imports may lead to lost export markets. Some experts also note that Canada’s retaliatory tariffs could further strain Montana’s already fragile trade relationships.  Independent Record

  • Montana Fish Wildlife & Parks warned residents to be bear-aware this spring as wildlife wakes from hibernation, advising outdoor enthusiasts to carry bear spray and travel in groups (especially during daylight) while avoiding signs of bear activity (such as disturbed logs or carcass sites).  KTVH

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • A plaque honoring the late Helena-based journalist Chuck Johnson was unveiled last Friday in the Old Supreme Court chambers at the State Capitol to recognize his work during 22 legislative sessions and contributions with major papers—AP, Lee Newspapers and the Great Falls Tribune. He retired in 2015 and mentored young reporters, including MTN’s senior political reporter Jonathon Ambarian.  KTVH
  • Lewis and Clark County commissioners awarded a $534K bid for roadwork and approved a $45K contract to review repairs for the courthouse roof and gutter project — work plans will be finalized soon.  Independent Record
  • The Heritage Tourism Council is compiling a directory of contractors with experience in historic buildings+rubblestone foundations, brick sidewalks and rock walls. Interested contractors must show the skills needed to work on these preservation projects.  Independent Record

HEALTH NEWS

  • At St. Peter's Health, local health workers, mothers, and potential donors gathered to open a new breast milk donation site that is the only one in Montana. Kendra Hull became the first donor after a close call with preterm labor, and the milk will be sent to a bank for testing and pasteurization—ensuring safe milk for babies in need.  KTVH
