ACCIDENTS NEWS

  • The Walking Child Family lost irreplaceable Native American cultural items and important documents in a house fire on Monday—neighbors and fire departments responded around 2 p.m. and put out the flames by 4 p.m.—with no injuries reported.  KTVH

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • On Monday evening in East Helena, the Lewis and Clark County Sheriff's Office safely disposed of deteriorated dynamite found half a mile from City Hall at the demolished Mockel Precast and Excavating site—authorities burned the explosives on site due to their condition and remind residents to call 911 if they find any.  KTVH
  • Helena firefighters trained in a donated house near Carroll College on March 25 by practicing methods to find a fire's source and rescue trapped people using simulated smoke—training that will continue through Thursday as residents may see emergency vehicles near 178 W. Lyndale Ave.  KXLH
  • Helena approved a $312K replacement of the 8-inch ductile iron water main on Centennial Drive after it broke nine times in three years. The Utility Maintenance Division said the breaks were due to improper pipe bedding.  Independent Record
  • On March 25, firefighters used a donated home near Carroll College for smoke simulation training that included techniques for finding a fire's source and rescuing trapped people—firefighters will continue training through Thursday, and residents should expect fire trucks and related equipment near 178 W. HEALTH NEWS

  • Lewis and Clark Public Health officials are preparing for a potential measles case even though the disease has not been reported in Montana in almost 35 years. They are working with schools and daycares—focusing on under-vaccinated groups—to have plans ready if a case appears.  KTVH
  • Montana healthcare leaders say the national physician shortage has left nine counties without a family care doctor—Dr. John Moore and Dr. James Denisar-Green are working with local programs that will train new doctors to serve Montana communities.  KXLH
  • Lewis and Clark Public Health is preparing for measles cases in our county even though Montana has not seen one in almost 35 years—officials are working with schools and daycares and urging complete vaccination for those who cannot be vaccinated.  KXLH

SPORTS NEWS

  • Helena Youth Rugby has grown significantly and now has 103 registrations — an increase from previous years. Two East Helena High seniors have committed to play at Boise State University and Central Washington University — showing the sport’s rising role in the local community.  KTVH
  • Rugby has grown fast in Helena as the local club added 24 members to reach 103 players and now gives young athletes a chance to build skills and earn college opportunities. Coach Cody Maykuth said the growth from a small team to one that welcomes players of all ages shows the sport's strong future in the community — a change that is setting a new path for local youth.  KXLH
