GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ Today, supporters gathered on the Capitol steps to learn about Gov. Gianforte's plan to lower income taxes by reducing the top rate on incomes above $20,000 and by increasing the earned income tax credit, as outlined in Senate Bill 323 introduced by Senator Josh Kassmier. Opponents like Rep. Mary Caferro said that funds should instead support schools and health care and noted that the bill must pass both legislative chambers before it can become law. KTVH
- ➤ On Friday, the Montana Senate debated three House Bills on wolf management—one would require unlimited wolf hunting if the population exceeds 550, another would extend the hunting season into spring, and a third mandates new tools for wildlife management. The bills passed readings with votes of 26 to 24, 30 to 20, and 32 to 18—now they need a third reading before returning to the House. KTVH
- ➤ A group of local businesses, community groups and government agencies urged Governor Gianforte to reappoint METG for a new five-year term to manage the East Helena smelter site cleanup before the June deadline.
