  • Helena city officials said Amazon is scouting a local site for a new distribution center that is still in the very preliminary stages and must pass several approval steps while neighbors rally against the plan.  Independent Record

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Helena voters face three 10-year levies for Public Schools to fund classroom supplies, staffing and technology upgrades; if passed, about $3M will support operations and tech needs, with property taxes for $600k homes rising by up to $83. Ballots are available Apr. 17 with the vote on Tuesday, May 5.  KTVH
  • Helena voters will see three 10-year levies on the ballot this May to fund school operations, technology, classroom supplies, and teacher recruitment. If passed, the measures could raise taxes for a $600,000 home by $33 to $83 a year, with ballots on April 17 and election on May 5.  KXLH

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • The U.S. Forest Service is conducting a prescribed burn of 330 acres off Grizzly Gulch Road near Helena on Thursday that may extend into Friday — trail users are advised to choose alternate routes and drivers to slow down for safety.  MontanaRightNow

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Two Montana Highway Patrol troopers were honored with the Award of Valor at the state Capitol yesterday for their heroic response during a high-risk pursuit in Big Timber last year. They returned fire after an armed suspect engaged them & safeguarded the community.  KTVH
  • A proposed 39,000 sqft warehouse distribution center for a 14-acre site at the corner of Crossroads Parkway and an extension of Alice St is under review pending updated transportation impact details from the applicant; the Helena Zoning Commission will schedule a public meeting when requirements are met.  KTVH
