CULTURE NEWS
- ➤ The Helena Mineral Society is hosting its 79th Gem Mineral and Fossil Show at the Civic Center today from 9 am to 5 pm and Sunday from 10 am to 4 pm. The show features fossils, jewelry, geodes, crystals, and Montana's gemstones and charges a $3 admission fee for visitors, except for children under twelve (and veterans), with proceeds supporting Montana Learning Center and Montana Tech scholarships. - ➤ The Heart of Helena Art Show and Auction featured 265 art pieces and sold more than 200, a Heart of Helena committee member said + the event supported area nonprofits. Independent Record

- ➤ Carroll College announced Friday that its nursing program launched a fully equipped mobile health unit — it will be used for the first time at the annual Mock Mass Casualty Incident training. Independent Record
ENVIRONMENT NEWS
- ➤ At Spring Meadow Lake, community members cleaned up discarded fishing line and twine yesterday to protect nesting birds like osprey and geese from entanglement—helping ensure both wildlife and park visitors can enjoy the area. The cleanup effort also promotes proper recycling of monofilament through bins placed around the park. KXLH

- ➤ The Montana Fish and Wildlife Commission will hold a virtual meeting on April 17 at 8:30 a.m. via Zoom where registered public commenters can discuss proposals including the 2025 Fish Removal Project and updated migratory bird rules—registration for public comment ends at noon on April 16. - ➤ Downtown Helena is retiring parking meters and will replace them with Passport Parking—an app that lets users pay and extend their parking time with a 15-cent fee per transaction after creating an account. Independent Record
- ➤ At a ceremony on Friday, the Montana National Guard awarded top honors at its Best Warrior Competition where 13 men completed a four-day contest and two international soldiers from the Maldives competed for the first time.
