- ➤ A memorial in Kennedy Park honoring Samuel was intentionally destroyed over the weekend, sparking deep emotion in the community. Bridgett Tielking, who helped secure the tribute for her son—killed by a drunk driver, said local leaders and volunteers are working to restore the installation soon. KTVH
- ➤ Today, local band Ten Years Gone performs at Lewis and Clark Taproom for a $5 cover charge—marking the start of a week of Helena events that include a vintage and antique market at Lewis and Clark County Fairgrounds on Saturday, April 26 from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. and a downtown farmers’ market on Fuller Street from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Other events include Bill Roberts Demo Day at Bill Roberts Golf Course from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., a 21+ concert by The Waiting on Saturday at 8 p.m., and a treadmill challenge on May 1 at Capital City Health Club to benefit Cancer Support Community Montana. ACCIDENTS NEWS
- ➤ Jacque Trude, a Helena swim instructor, lost her home and five pets when a fire swept through her house on Easter Sunday after she left for church at about 10 a.m.; local fire crews responded, one firefighter was injured, and the fire reignited Thursday morning—investigators have not determined the cause—while Trude plans to rebuild. - ➤ On April 23 at Lewis and Clark Library, Helena Public Schools board candidates met with about 80 community members to discuss issues like the potential closure of Hawthorne Elementary and budget shortfalls — four new candidates and two incumbents are vying for three open seats on the board in the May 6 election. - ➤ The Montana Department of Public Health and Human Services has launched a $6.5 million grant program to help counties and municipalities expand forensic stabilization services in detention centers (covering mental health services, medication costs, transportation, and technology).
