  • On Friday, Helena residents planted four trees (three hazelnut and one maple) for Arbor Day at 6th Ward Garden Park with help from local groups including Growing Friends of Helena, the City of Helena, Resilient Helena, Helena Food Share, and the 6th Ward Garden Committee.  KTVH

  • A 25-year-old Helena man was sentenced in Lewis and Clark County District Court to 17 years in prison for felony criminal distribution of dangerous drugs that resulted in a woman's death from a fentanyl overdose.  Independent Record

  • Montana Book Company celebrates Independent Bookstore Day today with special items for purchase, author signings, giveaways and a golden ticket hunt that awards 12 free audiobook credits.   • Lisa Cordingley, executive director of the Helena Education Foundation for 24 years, will retire at the end of June—she helped local schools since 2001 and her deputy, Becca Leaphart, will take over on July 1.  Independent Record

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • Two rams in bighorn sheep hunting district 622 have tested positive for Mycoplasma ovipneumonia — a microbe that can lead to pneumonia outbreaks in bighorn sheep. One ram was taken by a hunter last fall and the other was found with clear signs of pneumonia during a spring survey, prompting FWP to continue monitoring the herd after closing hunting in the area.  MontanaRightNow

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Sixty Montana organ donors who saved 164 lives were honored on Friday at the Governor’s Gift of Life Ceremony (held at the State Capitol lawn) by the Governor’s Office and Life Center Northwest as families remembered their loved ones.  KTVH
  • City officials confirmed that after the Ten Mile Treatment Plant reopened following filter replacement, water from the west side stirred sediment in the pipes and caused a temporary reddish tint — tests show the water is safe to drink. Officials advised residents to run their faucets for 5 to 10 minutes to flush out the sediment — a simple step to clear the discoloration.  KTVH

HEALTH NEWS

  • Today, Helena residents can safely drop off unused and expired medications at secure drop boxes at local pharmacies and the Law and Justice Center on Fuller Avenue from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.—the event aims to prevent drug misuse. Montana collected 58 thousand pounds of medications at past takeback days—these efforts help keep harmful drugs out of reach.  KTVH
