COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Students across Helena spent Thursday painting and building floats for the Vigilante Day Parade—marking its 101st anniversary—as they prepared for the event today on Last Chance Gulch. High school teams chose themes from Montana history to local athletic programs while teachers checked on their progress throughout the day.  KXLH
  • Montanans who work in child welfare and family services were honored at a conference in Helena on Thursday organized by the Montana Department of Public Health and Human Services. Twelve awards were given to 22 people and two organizations, and foster parents Kelsey and Andrew Richards were recognized for their contributions to foster care.  KTVH

  • The historic underground bar Rathskeller at Montana Club reopened to the public and now welcomes patrons on Thursdays, Fridays, and Saturdays from 3 p.m. to midnight—offering a revived venue for local gatherings.  Independent Record

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Carroll College named Dr. William N. Ruud as its 19th president effective July 1. Ruud brings 17 years of leadership experience—spanning roles at several colleges—and was unanimously selected by the board.  MontanaRightNow

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • Today, the former East Helena ASARCO site is reopened as Prickly Pear Park, a restored public space with trails, mountain views and about 1.5 miles of trout fishing—dogs are not allowed to protect nesting aquatic birds. The park opens daily from 6 a.m. to 10 p.m. following 137 years of industrial use.  KTVH
