- ➤ Family Promise held a groundbreaking on Thursday for its new homeless shelter designed to serve 16 families and women. The project is 80% funded—an additional $200,000 is needed while construction is expected to take six to eight months, and city and nonprofit leaders attended the event. KTVH
CRIME NEWS
- ➤ A nine-person coroner's inquest jury in Helena found that three police officers were justified in fatally shooting Paul Rolfes last November at Jester's Bar—after he returned to the bar, barricaded himself in the bathroom, and stabbed an officer when a taser failed to subdue him. KTVH
- ➤ Today, officials at the Boyd Andrew prerelease center in Helena reported that 19-year-old Kaetau Old Horn, who faced assault charges in Lewis and Clark County and is described as 5'8" with black hair and brown eyes and weighing about 220 pounds, walked away from the program and urged anyone with information to contact local law enforcement. - ➤ Helena will keep its current policy for managing the unsheltered after new state laws let cities enforce rules on urban camping + local police said there are no large encampments causing major problems.
