GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ The Lewis and Clark County Sheriff’s office will increase patrols during Montana’s 100 deadliest days on the roads by adding two to five extra officers in high-crash areas ahead of Memorial Day — a move funded by the Montana Department of Transportation's Selective Traffic Enforcement Program. Officials noted that past fatal crashes and concerns over impaired and distracted driving have prompted these measures to keep roads safer during the busy holiday travel period. KTVH
- ➤ Sheriff Nick Rauser said the Broadwater County Sheriff’s Office lost $1.2 million in funding due to the expired levy, which cut key roles like the school resource officer and South End deputy — and one deputy set to retire will not be replaced. He added that detectives will cover patrol shifts and some deputies will be reassigned for jail duties — a change that may slow services until voters can act in June. MontanaRightNow
