ACCIDENTS NEWS

  • The Tri-Lakes Volunteer Fire Department in East Helena warned of rising traffic dangers this summer—reporting four car accidents last weekend that exceeded the previous six months' totals—and urged drivers to respect privacy by not posting accident photos.  MontanaRightNow

CRIME NEWS

  • A Helena man was charged with felony aggravated kidnapping on Wednesday after he allegedly beat a woman—he claimed she lied to him and told police dispatchers that it 'felt really good' after the attack.  Independent Record

CULTURE NEWS

  • Helena’s The Myrna Loy was informed by the NEA that its three grants—worth about $80,000—were terminated, which led to cancelled shows and paused projects that it had planned for a full season and educational outreach. Director Benji Cosgrove said the arts center will survive and continue to offer local art events despite the funding loss.  KXLH

EDUCATION NEWS

  • On Wednesday, students from kindergarten to seniors visited their old schools in Helena to show how their learning helped shape their futures. Capital High and Helena High seniors will hold graduation ceremonies on June 7 at Carroll College — Capital at 8:00 a.m. and Helena at 11:00 a.m.  KTVH
  • Graduating seniors from Capital High and Helena High visited their old elementary schools on Wednesday to show current students what they can achieve and share memories of their early days. The seniors will have their graduation ceremonies on June 7 at Carroll College (CHS at 8:00 a.m., HHS at 11:00 a.m.).  KXLH
  • Dozens of Montana educators reported that rising mental health needs have strained school resources and led to counselor burnout as programs like the CSCT face cuts. They said schools need more state support to boost behavioral health care and better protect students.  Independent Record

  • Indigenous Peoples Day is now an official Montana holiday—after a decade of determined effort by advocates working to secure its recognition.  Independent Record
  • The Forest Service announced that part of Crow Creek Road will be closed until the end of September due to heavy machinery work—meant to ensure the safety of both the public and workers—and visitors should plan alternate routes.  Independent Record
  • Residents in North Helena Valley petitioned Lewis and Clark County commissioners to clean up 7710 N. Montana Ave due to health hazards from an unlicensed campground—Tom Rygg presented a petition signed by 77 neighbors on May 8 and urged officials to resolve a long-standing property ownership issue causing sewer, water, and waste problems. Law enforcement and fire personnel have visited the site, and neighbors now call for swift action to remove unauthorized occupants and address the decay.  Independent Record
