COMMUNITY NEWS
- ➤ Today the City of Helena urged hikers, bikers, and dog walkers to stay on designated trails to protect open lands—this measure is meant to stop trail braiding and reduce resource damage. KXLH
- ➤ The annual Point-In-time Survey by the United Way of the Lewis and Clark Area showed that the unsheltered population decreased to 143—38 fewer than last year—with counts of 34 children, 12 veterans, and 58 individuals with disabling conditions. Advocates said that low participation from partner shelters may cause the survey to underestimate the true homelessness in Helena. KXLH
EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ Students at Helena High School took part in an MRE cooking challenge organized by the U.S. Army Reserves — they followed recipes by Chief Warrant Officer 2 Christine Stanley and prepared dishes including a pound cake with strawberries and citrus syrup, tacos, and mac and cheese. The event, which first launched in fall, also involved teams from East Helena High School and Jefferson High School. KXLH
ENVIRONMENT NEWS
- ➤ Montana DNRC began thinning a forest west of Helena on Thursday to lower wildfire risks—chainsaws filled the state land as teams cut small trees and brush. The project will continue in the coming days to help keep the area safe. Independent Record

- ➤ St. Peter’s Health is hosting its second annual Bicycle Rodeo today from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. at the Medical Group building on 2550 E. Broadway St.—the free event offers races, obstacle courses, bike check stations and helmet fittings for children from kindergarten through junior high. KXLH
- ➤ Helena groups are working together to hold an event that gives menstrual hygiene products to women in need. The drive, led by the YWCA Helena and the Friendship Center, will run until June 7—donations are accepted at Gentle Healing Wellness Center, Loft Helena Yoga studios, and 501 N. Park Avenue—aiming to help keep women safe and healthy. KTVH
