CULTURE NEWS
- ➤ Yesterday, Exploration Works held a ribbon-cutting ceremony for its new Moon Tree in downtown Helena. The Douglas fir traveled nearly 270,000 miles on the Artemis I mission—the only moon tree in the state—and is under 24‐hour surveillance with care managed by local teams. KTVH
EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ The Helena Public School Board of Trustees voted 6—1 on Tuesday to close Hawthorne Elementary School for the 2025—2026 school year, a decision that will save roughly $1,000,000 annually. Many students will move to Central or Kessler Elementary Schools as the district implements this change. KXLH
ENVIRONMENT NEWS
- ➤ The Hilger Valley Fire near Gates of the Mountains grew slightly Wednesday morning and burned about 318 acres with 15% containment. Fire crews are reinforcing control lines—161 personnel work to secure the perimeter and handle mop-up efforts. KTVH
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ Helena completed nearly 10 years of work to restore its historic fire tower, which now stands strong as a city landmark. City officials including the City Commission and Parks Department held a ribbon-cutting ceremony — welcoming community members and marking the project's success. MontanaRightNow
HEALTH NEWS
- ➤ St. Peter’s Health held simulation training for nurses, doctors, EMS and law enforcement to get ready for opioid overdose cases in Montana, which has many overdose deaths—among the highest in the nation. The session used a pediatric mannequin—able to talk, blink, breathe and cry—to help staff practice quick decisions to save lives. KXLH
