- ➤ A federal hearing was held Thursday in Missoula for Helena resident Christopher Martínez-Marvan, a Mexican citizen arrested on July 1 for an expired vehicle registration during an ICE-led operation — his attorneys say his detention violates his right to counsel — and local protesters gathered outside the courthouse. - ➤ Posters warning of ICE presence went up on light poles last week and urged residents in English and Spanish to report agent encounters—sparking debate and heated public comments at local meetings. Some signs were posted by the grassroots The Waking Giant movement while others came from an immigrant-owned business with a national following. KTVH
- ➤ Seventy-six Montana National Guard personnel are undergoing Red Card wildfire response training in Helena this week to be ready if wildfires break out later—this training includes hands-on exercises and classroom work as part of a partnership with the Montana Department of Natural Resources and Conservation. - ➤ Missoula-based immigration lawyer Randall Caudle explained that the path to legal residency and citizenship in the U.S. is complex and many face delays due to missing documents or minor legal issues — he noted Montana’s immigration office works faster than those in larger cities. KTVH
