- ➤ The Last Chance Stampede and Fair starts today at the Lewis and Clark County Fairgrounds in Helena with a concert featuring country artists Ian Munsick and Rodney Atkins. The fair will run through Saturday with rodeo events featuring themed nights for Military Appreciation on Thursday, domestic violence awareness on Friday, and 4-H Appreciation on Saturday while new food vendors, open exhibits, shopping, and carnival rides add to the festivities and officials urge caution against ticket resellers. - ➤ Helena residents have noticed more door-to-door salespeople visiting neighborhoods near Bill Roberts Golf Course this summer. Sheriff Leo Dutton says salespeople in Helena must show a business license and advises residents not to let them in—if they refuse to leave, report them for trespassing. KXLH
- ➤ Karyn Hamilton has been a dedicated 4-H volunteer for 46 years and has worked in many roles while helping get the fairgrounds' multipurpose building ready for incoming animals — she will be honored at the 4-H Appreciation Night on Saturday at the Last Chance Stampede. KTVH
ENVIRONMENT NEWS
- ➤ A large pile of boulders has grown along West Shore Dr. near Canyon Ferry Reservoir since early June as rocks from the Indian Creek mine are gathered to armor eroding banks that threaten recreation sites and a nearby store. Engineers say the project will use about 18,000 tons (39 million pounds) of rock at a cost of (over $1 million) with work scheduled for March through May in 2026 and 2027 to protect the shoreline. - ➤ Hurling, Ireland’s national sport, is gaining traction in Montana after Myles Maloney of the Thomas Meagher Hurling Club held a free skills clinic at Centennial Park in Helena last Friday—demonstrating a mix of soccer, baseball and lacrosse, while plans for a new club in Billings move forward.
