EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ Helena Public Schools is preparing for back-to-school by hiring bus drivers to safely transport nearly 500 students. Applicants must be at least 21 and have 5 years of driving experience, and they will complete two weeks of in-house training — a good opportunity for retirees and working parents. KTVH
- ➤ Helena Public Schools welcomed back teachers Monday at Helena Middle School where staff gathered for a free breakfast—and they attended trainings and prepared classrooms before students return Wednesday while kindergarten starts next Tuesday. KXLH
FINANCE NEWS
- ➤ Helena Public Schools placed two bond measures totaling $283 million on the ballot for a Sept. 9 vote — the measures will change local property taxes if approved. Independent Record
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ Starting this week, Helena’s speed limit around schools drops to 15 mph during school hours—drivers must slow down and watch for children crossing the streets. Crossing guards and law enforcement stress the importance of keeping a safe distance from school buses to protect students. KXLH
- ➤ Helena voters will meet five mayoral candidates as the city holds its first primary election in 24 years ahead of the 2025 race—this contest will decide which candidate moves on. Independent Record
