CRIME NEWS
- ➤ Hours after volunteers finished building a new pavilion at Never Sweat Trailhead near Canyon Ferry, they discovered it was vandalized with bullet holes, cartridge casings, tire marks and graffiti—The Forest Service is investigating while the Capital Trail Vehicle Association plans repairs using grant funds. - ➤ A Helena man pleaded guilty in April to possession with intent to distribute controlled substances and received a 12 years—4 months prison sentence, according to U.S. Attorney Kurt Alme. Independent Record

- ➤ Young Helena artists played two-song sets at the first Helena Youth Battle of the Bands, showing off many musical styles — the organizer said the event was an absolute smash. The contest gave local talent a chance to share their music. Independent Record
ENVIRONMENT NEWS
- ➤ Today, air tankers at the Helena base are busy fighting wildfires such as the Windy Rock Fire and the West Fork Fire. C-130 pilot Joshua Kryzsko said the planes drop 4000 gallons of retardant to give ground crews more time to work safely — the fleet can be sent to other missions quickly. KTVH
