The Lewis and Clark Humane Society in Helena recorded 1,007 adoptions this year with 635 cats, 350 dogs, and 22 smaller animals; staff credited community support + efficient same-day procedures and said they will work toward 500 more adoptions before year-end.

After nearly three years of volunteer work with Lewis and Clark County, the historic Unionville Schoolhouse entered a new chapter today as it was gifted to the community.

The restored building (from around 1872) will serve as a place for locals to connect.

Helena and East Helena Public Schools boards of trustees swore in three new student representatives for the 2026-2027 school year, with each ready to help shape their schools’ futures.

Helena organizations marked International Overdose Awareness Day Monday (Aug.

31) by offering Narcan training and educational outreach to community members. The event included sessions at the Montana Heritage Center and at the Lewis and Clark Library, and another outreach will be held Sept. 9 in Lincoln.

Helena-based triathlon director Ann Gilbert launched the Montana Women’s Triathlon to help women get active and live healthier.

The event grew from nearly 80 participants in 2015 to 300 women from Montana and 21 states in 2026.
