CRIME NEWS
- ➤ A horse breeder in Madison County was ordered to pay nearly $80,000 in restitution to the ASPCA for neglecting 86 horses on his ranch between Sheridan and Virginia City last year—he faces a deferred sentence if he pays and agrees not to own animals for five years. Independent Record
EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ Helena Public Schools passed a $240 million high school bond and a $43 million elementary bond Tuesday by a couple hundred votes—Superintendent Rex Weltz said the funds will be used to address deferred maintenance at Capital High with $14 million needed and Helena High, which requires $30 million. The district held nearly 70 public engagements during its bond campaign to gauge community input. KTVH

- ➤ Naval officials from the USS Montana attack submarine — including its captain — visited Helena during a state tour of the Treasure State. Independent Record
- ➤ Election volunteers help run Helena's voting process by scanning ballots, verifying signatures, and organizing ballots for counting—tasks that ensure a fair and secure election. Retired election judge Nancy Perry said volunteers earn $11 an hour while giving back to the community. KTVH
- ➤ Officials said early results were expected by 8:30 p.m. Tuesday as ballots were still being counted in the Helena municipal primary election, which had a 51% turnout. The Independent Record will update the story as more results are published. Independent Record
