Helena organizations including Prickly Pear Land Trust and Energy Share Montana are preparing for a harsh winter by splitting and stacking 18 cords of firewood at 10 Mile Creek Park on October 23rd—efforts that will help local families heat their homes and cover past-due bills.

Harlequin Organic Produce in Arlee is roasting chile peppers with a spinning metal drum—picked from mid-August to supply community-supported produce boxes for Missoula and Jocko Valleys—and brings southwestern spice to the local food scene.

The team will host a warehouse sale in October—where locals can see the roasting process in action—and plans to grow the market for these unique peppers.

The Helena Symphony kicked off its 71st season on Sept 13 with a gala event of music by Strauss, Schwantner, and Respighi—featuring a standout performance by a key percussionist.

Helena voters passed a $283 million bond on Sept 9 to fund a new high school, renovations, and other upgrades for public schools.

District officials said planning will start soon—gathering public input—and they plan to break ground in summer so that new facilities open in fall 2028.

Helena Public Schools bond measures passed by 358 and 375 votes and an elections official said the small difference did not meet the recount threshold.
