COMMUNITY NEWS

  • The Montana Community Foundation hosted a dedication ceremony Wednesday to rename its building as the Siegel Giving Center in honor of Arne and Steffi Siegel—recognizing their contributions.  Independent Record

BUSINESS NEWS

  • City records show that Chick-fil-A in Helena has resubmitted its building plans for review as the permit extension—expiring Oct.18—requires work to begin within 180 days, yet no construction has started at 2770 N. Washington St.  KTVH
  • Crooked Yard Hops is one of only three commercial hop farms in Montana that supplies about 6,000 pounds of hops a year to local breweries including Bozeman Brewing and Red Lodge Ales. The farm, run by fifth-generation farmer Jake Teselle, uses a hand-tied process on its seven-acre yard each spring to support Montana’s craft brewing industry—ensuring a unique local flavor in every batch.  KXLH

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Over 500 first graders at Helena Public Schools are receiving new hardcover books from the Helena Education Foundation’s Fabulous Firsts program—each child gets one of six titles to promote reading during school events and at the local library. The final book giveaway will take place on September 26th.  KTVH
  • East Helena schools are nearly full as new homes boost the student population, and the superintendent said many see the district as a great place to raise a family—officials are watching growth to adjust class sizes if needed.  Independent Record
  • Helena Public Schools identified 253 homeless students just a month into the 2025–2026 academic year—43 more than at the same time last year—and many are couch surfing, sleeping in cars, or unsure when their next meal will be. School officials and local groups are working to provide shelter, food, and school supplies to help these students stay in school.  KTVH

  • Helena adopted a clean energy loan program that offers 20-year loans for energy and safety upgrades—loans that property owners will repay through property taxes.  Independent Record

  • The Helena Montana Kennel Club — in partnership with the Gallatin Dog Club — is hosting the Fall Roundup Cluster dog show at the Lewis and Clark County Fairgrounds, and the event will run through Sunday.  Independent Record
