- ➤ The Lewis and Clark Humane Society will hold its first Paws for a Cause fundraiser on October 1 at the Helena Civic Center with doors opening at 11:30 a.m. and a free hour-long program including lunch provided by Silver Star Steak Company—reservations are nearly full with 180 spots filled out of 200 available. - ➤ Applestem Corn Maze and Pumpkin Patch in Craig celebrated 20 years as a beloved fall tradition—drawing thousands of visitors and boosting local business since moving from Vaughn. This year’s surprise theme marks the anniversary as local students from Augusta Public Schools enjoyed rides and exploring the maze. KTVH
- ➤ The Exchange Club of Helena has marked its 75th anniversary since it was founded in 1950 to support the community with patriotism and youth programs. The club will host a Festival of Wines fundraiser in November to benefit the Coats for Kids program—continuing decades of volunteer work. KTVH

- ➤ Chick-fil-A reset its project timeline after Helena approved a release of easement that lets the fast-food chain reroute water and sewer mains at its planned site at 2770 N. - ➤ Talen Energy has disputed NorthWestern Energy’s claim that customer choice for supply no longer exists in Montana — the company says data centers still have access to multiple energy suppliers. Independent Record
EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ Helena Public Schools board canvassed election results Wednesday night and confirmed the passage of two bonds—outlining the timeline for the district’s paperwork that will follow. This planning process will guide the upcoming steps in the bond approval effort. Independent Record
- ➤ Helena Public Schools said that century-old Vigilante Stadium will become a soccer-only facility while football and track and field events shift to a new complex funded by $283 million in bonds approved on Sept. 9. Construction will begin in fall 2026 and the new venue is expected to host games by fall 2030 — a change that updates outdated facilities and meets state standards. Independent Record

- ➤ The City of Helena will begin leaf collection operations in October—using street sweepers and a leaf vacuum to gather up to 6,000 pounds of leaves daily that will be taken to a transfer station for composting. Residents are asked to remove leaves from bags and separate them from branches to help clear streets and storm gutters for winter. KTVH
- ➤ In Helena, work to begin soon on I-15 over Boulder Avenue will apply a scrub seal to roughly 11 miles — part of the Helena North Pavement Preservation project. Independent Record
- ➤ Asphalt milling will begin Monday on Lake Helena Drive near Eastgate school in East Helena—work starts after classes to limit disruption to school activities. Independent Record
SPORTS NEWS
- ➤ Carroll College is showing a new docuseries today at 6:00 p.m. at Nelson Stadium to honor the 20th anniversary of its 4-peat football team so that alumni and the community can relive those memorable days. The series features interviews with more than 20 people + game footage and will later be available on the Carroll website. KXLH
