  • Tractor Supply Co. is holding a soft opening this week in Helena—its ninth Montana location, and a spokeswoman said new stores in Butte and Billings will open before year-end.  Independent Record

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Montana education leaders released new guidelines today for school districts to plan how they use artificial intelligence in K-12 classrooms. The recommendations outline ways for districts to regulate AI in teaching — officials expect districts to review the guidance soon.  Independent Record

  • The Montana Department of Natural Resources and Conservation launched an online interactive map that shows forest product manufacturers across the state—this tool connects landowners to local mills and supports efforts to reduce wildfire risks ahead of Montana Forest Products Industry Week starting Oct 19.  MontanaRightNow
  • Gov. Greg Gianforte announced a new state program called HEART Initiative to help formerly incarcerated Montanans meet their behavioral health needs by starting treatment 30 days before release. The Department of Public Health and Human Services and the Department of Corrections will manage the program — it offers medication-assisted treatment, case management, and a 30-day supply of medication to lower overdoses and reduce re-incarceration.  MontanaRightNow
  • The Montana Department of Livestock is investigating reports of possible feral swine in Phillips County after pig tracks, scat and other signs were found at a barn—officials later determined the animals are escaped domestic pigs that must be contained under state law. Officials are working with the animal owner and other agencies to trap the pigs, and healthy ones will be sent to Producer Partnership for processing into food.  MontanaRightNow

  • No. 12 Carroll College climbed to the top of the Frontier Conference West Division after beating Montana Western in Dillon Saturday, and coach Troy Purcell said the win came from hard work, better offense, and managing rainy conditions — he noted quarterback Kaden Huot’s six-game experience helped the team play faster. He said the team stays focused on the next contest against Simpson this weekend — they plan to continue improving as they prepare for the game.  KTVH
