COMMUNITY NEWS
- ➤ At the Helena Civic Center on Thursday, firefighter and paramedic Steven Reather was honored as Firefighter of the Year by the Helena Exchange Club—he has served the community for six years and plans to continue teaching kids fire safety. KTVH
- ➤ God’s Love shelter in Helena is implementing new emergency shelter requirements — for October, November and December, guests must show proof of working toward addiction recovery or mental health treatment. Director David Miller said the measure, developed after months of coordination with PureView, aims to curb problematic behavior and will be reviewed next year. KXLH
- ➤ On Wednesday, community members gathered at Memorial Park to join the Wave of Light event for Pregnancy and Infant Loss Awareness Month. Dozens lit candles at 7:00 p.m., showing that families facing miscarriage, stillbirth or infant loss are not alone—reminding everyone of shared support. KTVH
CULTURE NEWS
- ➤ The Montana Historical Society Museum Store in downtown Helena and online will temporarily close today as it moves to its permanent home at the new Montana Heritage Center—renamed the Gift Shop—and will reopen on Dec. 3 when the Heritage Center holds its soft opening. KTVH
EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ Theater students from Capital and Helena high schools performed a live version of books familiar to first graders at a local elementary school this week — a creative event that brought the stories to life. Independent Record
- ➤ Warren Elementary School students rallied around a classmate by writing letters to the county about York Road traffic safety; last spring the PTA notified the county about missing school zone signs on Tizer Road near the school + students hope the county will take prompt action+. ENVIRONMENT NEWS
- ➤ Helena is preparing to start its annual urban deer count to help officials manage the deer population within city limits. If deer density is too high, the city will cull deer — the meat will be processed with funding from Montana Fish, Wildlife and Parks and then sent to Helena Food Share, which received over 1,200 pounds last year.
