CULTURE NEWS

  • Schneider Taxidermy in Helena works hard during hunting season to preserve memories for local hunters by expertly mounting elk, deer and other Montana animals—owner Boudie Schneider has honed his craft since childhood. GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • The state has launched over $2 million in employer-sponsored childcare grants to help bridge a gap where only half of the children needing care in 2024 were served. Local groups like ExplorationWorks, Echo Church and Opportunity Bank in Helena will use funds for on-site childcare — a measure aimed at easing workforce challenges.  KTVH

SPORTS NEWS

  • Hunters in south-central Montana reported success during last weekend's general opening for elk and deer, and Region 3 had 2,480 hunters who recorded 148 elk, 40 mule deer and 10 white-tailed deer. Local checks at Silver City (6% gain) and Canyon Ferry (7% gain) showed higher overall success, and specialists said cooler weather will help hunting in the coming weeks.  KTVH
  • East Helena Vigilantes host their first playoff game in program history at 7 p.m. today at East Helena High School after a strong season with a 7-2 record and 4-1 in the Central Division. The team will face Glendive as they build on last year's playoff appearance — a milestone that drives their push for continual improvement.  KTVH
  • Bill Cooper and Team Grey Bull — a six-member crew from Helena — caught a 398-pound black marlin at Bisbee’s Los Cabos Offshore Tournament in Cabo, earning over $500K and placing second overall among 139 teams. The team fished over three days and plans to use part of their winnings for next year's tournament.  KXLH
