COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Crossroads Fitness is hosting the 43rd annual Turkey Trot fun run this Thanksgiving Thursday morning at 10 a.m. at 1013 Dearborn Ave and runners can choose from 1K, 5K, and 10K races with a $10 fee—free for those under five. Proceeds benefit local running group Helena Vigilante Runners while bagels, fruit, and drawings for free turkeys and pies will be provided after the races.  KTVH

  • Permitting documents filed with the City of Helena reveal design details for the long-anticipated Chick-fil-A drive-thru restaurant—final approvals will determine when construction begins.  Independent Record

CULTURE NEWS

  • The Montana Heritage Center is opening its doors today after 25 years and $107 million spent moving thousands of artifacts — a project that has gathered rare items — to present Montana history to local visitors.  Independent Record
  • Fifteen Bryant Elementary students—third, fourth and fifth grade—worked with local artists on a mural that shows Mount Helena and animals representing the seven grandfathers teachings. The project celebrates Native culture and emphasizes identity and pride.  Independent Record

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Carroll College named Dr. Jennifer Glowienka as its 20th president — the first female leader in a 116-year history — and she will assume full leadership in July 2026 after serving since 2003. She has outlined plans to expand graduate programs and support traditional undergraduate students.  KXLH
  • Helena College automotive students offered free vehicle inspections on Monday and Tuesday at the college shop, inspecting more than 20 vehicles in sessions that lasted about 45 minutes each. The program gave first-year students hands-on practice with paperwork and second-year students experience with diagnostic scans — helping them build skills for their future careers.  KXLH

  • The Montana Department of Transportation is ready with full de-icing tanks, mounted plow trucks, and trained drivers as more snow and ice are expected in the valleys and passes over the next few days—travelers should check the 511 road system for live updates. Officials advise caution on slippery roads to help keep everyone safe during winter travel.  KTVH
  • A Douglas fir cut from U.S. Forest Service land in Seeley Lake is headed to Helena to serve as the State Capitol Christmas tree for this holiday season—local officials said it will soon be set up in the downtown area.  Independent Record

  • Capital High School wrestler Taylor Lay signed her letter of commitment to Western Colorado University on Monday—she earned state championships and set records with the Lady Bruins.
