COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Two local organizations are running winter clothing drives to help neighbors stay warm. The YWCA accepts donations of boots and snowpants for up to 40 residents at its house (while Florence Crittenton seeks new hats and gloves for 200 families) as donations continue through winter.  KTVH

BUSINESS NEWS

  • Cup of Seoul: Korean BBQ Cupbop will open a new Helena location in March — offering Korean-style bowls with rice, cabbage, noodles and a choice of protein for about $11 each.  Independent Record

EDUCATION NEWS

  • A Montana judge ruled today that a law letting parents create education savings accounts for special needs students is unconstitutional because it was not funded properly. OPI Superintendent Hedalen said the program will stay off until the Legislature meets to fix the funding issue — a change that leaves families without access for now.  KTVH

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Margaret Stuart Youth Homes in Helena said its funding will be cut on Jan. 31, leaving its future uncertain. Colleen Rivers said officials are reviewing the decision.  Independent Record
  • Helena officials said that locked interest rates on the initial bond offerings for school construction will save taxpayers about $9.9 million compared to September projections.  Independent Record

  • With no returning starters, the Helena High boys basketball team will tip off today at Belgrade at 7 p.m.—coaches and players practice daily to build team chemistry for a strong season.  KTVH

    NeuroMotion is a fun, interactive brain-body class that uses 10 simple stations to engage physical movement and cognitive skills focusing on memory, attention, processing speed, and executive functioning. The session is designed for adults of all abilities, with both standing and seated options available and taught by Montana's only Certified Brain Health Trainer.
